On January 4th, I had a unique opportunity to ask our newly elected speaker, Nancy Pelosi, the challenges she faces holding one of the highest elected positions as a woman. It was truly an honor to even be in that room, yet alone speak.
Leading up to the event, the president of my university was sending emails and reminders about how Nancy Pelosi was coming for an MSNBC town hall at my school. As the political junkie that I am, of course I quickly RSVP’d. Little did I know the event was going to be as big as it turned out to be. When I arrived on campus that day, I couldn’t even recognize the room we were in —— security surrounded the campus, cameras were everywhere, and so many platforms and decorations had been built in that you would’ve thought we were in the Capitol or something. That same day I was also running a tad bit late because of morning traffic, so I feared they wouldn’t let me in after the 8 o’clock mark, but thank God for grace *inserts relief emoji*.
Once I walked in, members of my school faculty and Nancy Pelosi’s staff were literally pulling for me. The night before they sent me an email that my question could possibly be selected for the town hall, but I didn’t think much of it because they did say “possibly” and plus, my question seemed a bit basic compared to the other policy-related questions students were going to ask. But when I entered the room I was escorted to a VIP seat with my name on it, and that was when it hit me. At this point, I began shaking and thinking “omg this is serious-serious, like really really serious.” So many thoughts cluttered my mind, from wondering if what I wore was presentable, to worrying about how I would sound, to practicing my facial expressions (I literally pulled out my camera 3-4 times to check my face). But that’s when the God in me kicked in and knocked some sense into me. I got myself together by then and simply prepared myself to speak to the Speaker of the House.
Long story short, once the town hall began and the staff tapped me that it was my turn to ask a question, I went up there with the boldness of Christ and asked:

“Speaker Pelosi, what kind of challenges do you face holding one of the highest elected positions as a woman, and how do you handle them?”
To my surprise, she didn’t give me the answer I asked for, but the answer I needed. Of course all women in office face challenges, so what? She encouraged me to know my power and know my why so that I can speak with authority on the subject I choose to pursue in my career, no matter who tries to come against me. Best believe, I already know my God has the final say so let someone try it *inserts flipping hair emoji*.
Anyways, although this opportunity was great and absolutely awesome. What mattered most was how God showed me how much He cares for me. He really cares about our utmost desires and wants to fulfill them in our lives. He is not a wicked Father. During that town-hall, six students were selected to ask questions, and out of those six, four got their segment aired on MSNBC. I was one of those four. It was not by luck, nor coincidence, but by the grace and grace alone of Jesus Christ. Who am I but mere dust? I didn’t deserve to even be in that room, but God cared so much so to even give me a VIP seat. His Word promises to prepare a table before us, and He did just that. Hold God accountable to His Word and He will not fail you.
A year ago on that day, January 4th 2018, I was mourning the loss of my dear grandfather. A year later, January 4th, 2019, I get to ask the Speaker of the House of the United States of America a question and be aired on MSNBC. Like John in the Bible, all I can say is…what manner of love is this Lord? To God be alllllllllll the glory, great things He has done and will continue to do! Amen!
John 15:16 You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you.
