A couple weeks ago, March 29th, I turned 20 years old *inserts dancing emoji.* It still hasn’t kicked in that I’m actually not a teenager anymore. I’m not sure when it will either, maybe when someone pops the question or I see my child graduate…who knows. Anyways, I figured that since I’m entering a new decade, I should celebrate. I’ve always wanted to do a paint and sip, but it’s becoming so normalized now that I wanted to be a little extra with it, because who doesn’t like being extra *inserts flipping hair emoji*.
Back in December, I started planning things out and God gave me the idea of “Ewa’s ExtrARTvaganza,” a very unique name just like my first name, Ewaoluwa. So my idea was to showcase at least three friends who are artists and do things that I do as hobbies, like painting, writing, and eating lots and lots of desserts ;). However, only two of my friends could help me out and those two great friends were Tiffany, who has a dessert business called “DaraDesserts,” and Lauren who has an art business called “HeartbyL.” They were super helpful in planning and giving me ideas on what to do and they were AMAZING teachers. If you never picked up a paint brush before, Lauren knew how to perfectly describe what you’re painting, and if you’ve never decorated a thing in your life, Tiffany knew just the trick to get your hands moving.
Moreover, with my birthday being in March —Women’s History Month— I immediately knew I wanted it to be a girls-only kind of party, which made it much more fun. The primary focus was to highlight the distinct things that make us women and use art to bring us all together and have fun. As the event was nearing, God gave me the verse, Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” As women, we are God’s masterpiece, and we deserve to be celebrated rightfully so. My goal was to do things that reminded each friend who came, that they are unique and wonderfully made by the hands of God. Regardless of what society may dictate, God has the final say. So we had icebreakers where we reflected on jobs we aspired to do when we were little girls, we made woman trees and discussed different things we liked about being a woman, and then we moved to the big stuff— cupcake decorating and painting— it was all so fun and I’m so grateful I had the chance to enjoy things I love to do, with people who I love dearly. Cheers to 20!
Fun Fact: The playlist was a woman’s only playlist and the dress code was to wear blue jeans to symbolize Rosie the Riveter who had the famous “We Can Do It” empowerment image for women during World War II.
